April 2017 Income Report and Plans

April-OnlineMoneyz-Income-ReportThis is my 26th income report for this blog.

Every month I publish a post like this showing:

  • how much money I made
  • what I worked on
  • and what my plans are for the future.

These reports will help me keep myself accountable, and hopefully I can help you figure out how you can make money online.

What I Did in April

After a busy March on the online front, April was pretty relaxed.

This relaxation was because of my college exams so in reality I wasn’t relaxed at all.

However even with all the studying I still managed to accomplish some online stuff!

Online I:

  • Started the process of selling my highest income Amazon affiliate site.
  • Published my second income report roundup!
  • Added 16k words to WHQ with the hopes of getting past my Fred troubles.
  • Tried out Doug’s KGR technique. Some of the content is already ranking although it’s not in the top 30 yet.

Offline I:

  • Studied hard, took 3 final exams, and moved back to Louisiana for the summer.

Plans For May

I often start big projects for this website, but I don’t actually complete them.

Why is that?

  • I’m not very passionate about them.
  • I don’t think my posts help that many people.
  • I have shiny object syndrome.

Lately I’ve been thinking more and more about the concept of value and I realized that this website really doesn’t provide much to the world.

Sure, you can come and look at my income or Amazon affiliate projects, but how useful is that?

I originally started this blog with three main motivations:

  • Track my progress with making money online.
  • Motivate others and help them make money.
  • Make money through referrals and potentially publish an Amazon affiliate course.

I feel like I failed 2/3 of the above goals.

I definitely tracked my progress, but I don’t think I motivated others much and my content isn’t that helpful to either beginners or those who have been in the industry for a while.

I don’t know who I’m targeting with my website and I don’t know why I’m publishing the content I’m publishing.

I’ve been toying with the idea of creating an Amazon affiliate course for over a year now, but I feel like it would be:

  • Not as advanced/professional/whatever as other courses I’ve seen. I feel like I don’t have enough “secrets” to give away, and while I know that secrets aren’t what makes a great course it’s like a mental block that I have.
  • Poorly received because I don’t have enough proof. On one hand I feel like getting to $1,500 per month with Amazon without any help while working very part time is impressive, but on the other hand I see other people online that seem to be doing so much better than me and I end up questioning myself.

I always feel like I need to be more and more successful to actually create stuff that would be useful, but to a complete beginner my course could cut their learning curve by 6 months or more.

Anyway, here are my quick “goals” for May:

  • Sell my highest earning Amazon affiliate site.
  • Start doing SEO for WHQ. This has been my goal for forever, but I don’t enjoy doing SEO and I also want to teach my VA how to do this which means more effort on my part.
  • Start learning copywriting.

Website Traffic

Traffic is higher, but I’m not really sure why.

Amazon Affiliate Websites Traffic

This section is for those interested in my Amazon affiliate sites.

Most of my income is from Amazon, so I thought you might be interested in seeing how much traffic I get on my biggest sites and how much money they make.

BAB is my highest traffic site by far (I have acronyms for all of my sites because I don’t want to reveal the URL, but I need some way to keep track of them.)

I made $906.8 from the site this month, compared to $1,006.90 in March.

Once again a little less than before, but traffic was up everywhere so I’m confused.

My traffic increased by 25%, my conversion percentage is at 23% on Amazon, but yet my income is still lower.

Apparently my conversion percentage was at 27% in March though, so maybe the 4% decrease offset my 25% traffic increase, but that is weird.

WHQ is a site that I removed from this section previously, but I’m bringing it back now as it’s on the upswing.

It made $70.07 in April compared to $225.09 in March.

That’s a huge earnings drop, but my traffic was cut in half and my rankings dropped even more because of Fred.

Once I start doing SEO this will hopefully improve as I’ve put in a lot of money in this site and it has a lot of potential.

Income Report

Here are the numbers that everyone loves to see!
Revenue:

  • Amazon Affiliate- $1287.46 Actually not too bad considering the commission cut, but should’ve been higher.
  • Content Samurai– $609.12 A small drop, but last year I also experienced this as more and more people dropped the program and prepared to relax in the summer.
  • Total- $1896.58 I broke my streak of $2,000+ months… Sad, but all I can do is work harder. I have the entire summer to work and I will not waste it like I wasted my last one.

Expenses:

  • SerpLab- $5 Keyword tracking.
  • SEO- $54.98 Group buy SEO and some miscellaneous stuff that I don’t even remember.
  • Upwork- $129.97 Content for WHQ.
  • VA- $640 Worth the price, but I need to work harder and smarter to make sure that the money I spend makes money.
  • Total- $830 After $1k+ expenses in March it’s nice to once again be under $1k.

Total Profit: $1,066.64

Pretty solid.

    Dude, great site!

After you left a comment on my post, I had to come check this out. I read the sidebar bio first and though what is this 19 year old doing with a FI blog. HOWEVER you’re crushing it!

Your Amazon Affiliate Sales are awesome, you definitely know a thing or two about SEO. I’m still having trouble getting my first one on track, I’ll have to keep following you and learning from your experience.

    Glad We Connected!

Thanks Orange Squirrel! I mean… Andrew. lol

Appreciate the kinds words. 🙂 Now that you’ve mentioned it I guess this blog is a FI blog as that’s my ultimate goal, but I’ve always just thought of it as a “make money online blog.”

I’m just trying to save money by not eating avocado toast obviously 😉 (You’ve heard of the news article, right?)

Let me know if you got any questions or anything. Cheers!

    Hi Ilya,
I agree with the previous comment.
    Also,
    > getting to $1,500 per month with Amazon without any help while working very part time is impressive
it is indeed!!! 🙂 I want to hear more about it! :)))
I would suggest to not drop your blog even if u do not see an immediate value right away. This is something what’s truly yours and what connects you to the other web marketers. Keep building your community even if it grows slowly. It’s possible you will appreciate it in the future if something unfortunate happens to your niche websites (we know it can be the case!) Just write about your experience. You are about to sell your website – how will that go? It would be very interesting to read.
My strategy with my blog is to keep it on low burner for now.I publish the min amount of content I can afford and meanwhile I’m collecting emails and connecting with the others. Once I sort out my immediate business (may happen well in 1-2 years!) I will definitely go back to the blog, which will be well established by that time with some base of email subscribers. It’s my future for me 🙂

If I may suggest something you could improve your blog… Would it be possible to add an email notification about comment replies. It’s a convenient feature 🙂

      Hey Nadya,

That makes sense, I think I might end up doing exactly what you suggested with documenting what I can on here and then seeing where it leads me.

Are you planning on getting into businesses other than Amazon affiliate eventually do you think?

Thanks for the suggestion! I always though it’d be a pain to add, but I just installed a quick plugin and Voila! It works! I think…

We’ll see on my next post 🙂

      Cheers!

        >> Are you planning on getting into businesses other than Amazon affiliate eventually
Absolutely. In the beginning, I was thinking of a PBN service (seems this is where all the money is) but now I am not so sure… Want to improve my websites first and then we will see.
as of your blog – glad to hear the chances are I will continue to be a happy reader 🙂
